What is the Best Day to Move Home?

What is the Best Day to Move Home?

It is rare to have total freedom of when to move, as the date is usually dictated by a range of factors beyond our control. However, if given the choice, there are some days that are better than others.

For moving home, the most popular day of the week is Friday. This gives the family plenty of time to settle in and unpack over the weekend. However, due to its popularity, Friday is the busiest day for removers, and they are often fully booked many weeks in advance. Those same removals firms may have plenty of availability for mid-week moves and may even offer a better price if you can change your moving day to a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Of course, if the remover is using all of their resources on a Friday, there is little or no flexibility to cope with the unexpected, for example sending another van for the garden furniture and plant pots that were not on the original quote.

An all too frequent issue is that of being unable to gain access to the new property either because the purchase transaction has not been completed or there is a problem getting the keys. In this case, the removers may need to postpone delivery until the next day. If the work is carried out on the weekend, it may incur extra costs such as higher staff wages.

"August Bank Holiday is consistently the busiest day of the year"

While Fridays are usually very busy, those before a Bank Holiday are even more so. The August Bank Holiday is consistently the busiest day of the year for the industry, so if you plan to move on that weekend, be sure to book it as soon as possible.

In summary, if you have some flexibility on when you move home, it is worth discussing it with your removals company. You may get a better deal.
